I am pleased to tell you that the Blackout of 2003 didn't
cheat us out of anything after all. The show with Bob Mould has
indeed been re-scheduled! Hope to see you all there. It will
be a really wonderful evening.
8/15/03
So, Blackout 2003 cheated us out of was shaping up to be
a pretty cool evening opening up for Bob Mould. I mean, what's
a boy to do? I stood outside and got to know some of my neighbors
who I might not have otherwise met and got drunk on Heineken
while watching hordes of people looking like refugees walking
past my apartment on their way home from midtown Manhattan. Some
had to walk all the way to Coney Island still. All in the pitch
black. I at least was home. Anyway, that's pretty much what I
ended up doing. I hope everyone out there fared alright. We are
hoping to re-schedule. As soon as something happens, I'll post
it on the site. J.
8/06/03
I am pleased to announce that I will open for Bob Mould next
Thursday, August 14 at Maxwell's in Hoboken. This will be a solo-acoustic
evening and should sell out fast, so if you want to go, please
go to Other Music in Manhattan or for you Jersey Children, head
to Maxwell's to get tickets. You can also go to ticketweb.com.

Our recording studio is moving (and expanding!), so yet another
delay has pushed Horizon Drops back a bit. Do not despair. The
studio should be up and running in a couple weeks. In the meantime,
RWR is making plans to shoot a video for Anyway Now from the
new CD.
James will direct. We hope to include it on the album.
5/12/03
Dear Friends, I have not forgotten
you. Work on the new album has been a slower process than expected,
but the work continues nonetheless. We are smack dab in the middle
of mixing and want more than anything to bring this record to
you as soon as possible, and rest assured it will arrive this
year. Oh, and just to whet your whistle, the working title is
Horizon Drops. Can't wait to drop it on you.
Stay well, J.
12/04/02
Greetings from the depths of the studio...the new album is
going great. It's got me jumping around all over my house. I
can't wait for you to hear it. As somber and acoustic as Dizzy
on Daddy was, this one will be quite the opposite. As soon as
I can, I'll post a song for you all so you can hear what I'm
talking about. In the meantime, we'll be hard at work here at
Rat Disk putting the album together and getting the new website
up and running. Also expect lots of live shows in 2003 and even
a second, more subdued album (yes, it seems I've gone and started
two albums). Christy Davis (ex-Mold) has recorded the last of
her drum tracks and will be leaving the rat's nest to make room
for my brother Matt Raftery (No December) who will taking her
place for a while. We'll all miss her around here but wait till
you hear her awesome drumming! Don't worry, though. Matt's kickass.
Until next time, J.

Rat Wakes Red performed at the first
annual Dewey Beach Festival in Delaware on Saturday, September
28th. The show starteed at 9 PM at The Waterfront and consisted
of lots of new songs from the new album, still in progress.
8/01/02
Work continues on the new album, with Christy Davis (ex-Mold)
finishing up drum tracks this month. We are deep into it, and
should have something for you all to hear in the fall.
7/05/02
On July 4th, James gave an on-air interview with XM
Satellite Radio on their Unsigned station, which is curated
by Pat Dinizio from The
Smithereens. James was invited by station 52 to call on July
4th to talk about work on the new album and to introduce the
cut Last Gasp from the album Dizzy on Daddy, which has gotten
lots of airplay on XM.

Rat has gone back in the studio with producer Jeral Benjamin
to commit to permanency a slew of songs that have been simmering.
Not sure when to emerge, he will be making live appearances along
the way to satiate the still hungry who have been asking themselves,
"When, oh when, are we to expect the next Rat Wakes Red
album?!!" Well, to them I say, the vibrations have already
begun. All that is needed now is patience. See you at the next
show, J. |
